Awhile back I happened upon a great theme made by R.Bhavesh and while I liked his theme “WP Premium” there were a few things I felt needed modified.
Here are a few of the modifications I made to his already great theme:
- The Theme needed a logo spot. While the text worked, it didn’t brand the blog as being individual.
- It was way too graphic heavy. The background was image-based, the subscribe button background; while it looked okay, it didn’t really work design-wise.
- There were only two widgets in the sidebar. Granted, this is usually enough, here, the main areas that you would want to regularly change content were being taken up by other things. This could be done more easily with widgets. I increased the widgets to four.
- While I liked the color schemes that came with wp-premium, I thought this would be better modified in the css rather than by changing the name. Without the rest of the heavy graphics, this is more easily possible.
- I also changed the rss button to better fit the new layout and moved it right to center it above the sidebar.
- Graphics became more square and “cleaner” looking in my version. In face, a lot like the b5media templates that I am more familiar with (www.artisthideout.com)
I have debated on if these changes are enough to warrant completely renaming this theme, but I think that the original author contributed to the eventual outcome of the theme in a significant evolutionary way. I applaud his work and hope to add to it, rather than take away from it in releasing this theme as I hope others to do for me.
