Stupidity Among Us

I’d really like to know what kids are learning today in schools. It’s not been that long since I was in school, so I’m not sure I have rights to that statement just yet, but all the same I’d like to know. I went to the store this evening to buy a few grocery items. When I went to check out my total came to $9.50. I told the cashier I was going to pay part in change and the rest I would put on my card, since I had a lot of change I needed to get rid of. I gave him $5.50 in change, and proceeded to get out my debit card. Now please note that as I was counting the change, the cashier was counting it back to me, so he knew exactly how much I gave him. He put the change in the drawer and then gave me back a dollar and my receipt. “I still owe you four dollars,” I said. He looked puzzled and after checking the register said, “It says you get a dollar.” “I haven’t finished paying,” I replied. “Well, it’s too late now,” he said, “I’ve already rung it out.” He smiled like I had won a prize or something. Then he tried to give me the dollar again. At this point the guy in line behind me had a dumb founded look on his face. Like he didn’t know whether to laugh or be disappointed that he was stuck with the same cashier. I told the cashier to keep the dollar, since I still owed him money, it would only make his drawer more off. He looked puzzled again and said “I’ll fix it later.” Don’t really know how he’s planning on making four dollars appear out of no where, but I wasn’t going to keep the guy behind me from having his turn. I picked up my bag of groceries and left!

I almost missed your comment box here because it was down at the bottom of the page! Thanks to my hubs who pointed my way. ;) I can see this kind of scenario happening a lot these days. I will be the first to admit I have to break out the calculator sometimes when a customer pays me and I accidentally close my drawer and must figure out the change (especially when they try to be helpful and say “oh, wait I have a dime” even when that does nothing toward producing even change back). I do have logic skills, though, so would realize my error in a case like your cashier had.

For the comments, the trick is to hit the little link under the title …..which doesn’t show on the individual post pages. I’ll have to fix that. Should be easy to do… I hope.

Okay…. I see… It’s under the “Information and Links” section to the right of the post.. I changed this to “Interact and Connect” which makes more sense and made the comment link bold. ;) I think that’s a little easier now. Thanks.
