Free (must have) Program: Cobian Backup

Cobian Backup has become one of those programs for me that I don’t want to live without anymore as both a web administrator and just someone who wants to always have the data on their personal computer backed up somewhere.

a backup of my docs and settings folder

But one other feature I really like is for it to sync web versions of files that are hosted on FTP to your local computer.

For instance at the church, we do most of our work online utilizing ecosmear’s relay as an online storage of our more public files. Then I have set up a FTP backup using Cobian to automatically each night download the changed files to a local computer.  This means we always have a local backup to our online file storage solution.

Another use is for website administrators to always have a local backup of their clients website.

I am sure there are more elegant solutions on the corporate level, but running this as a service on a regular PC is really decent on resources and you can even limit the download/upload speeds if you still need some bandwidth for browsing.  ;)
