Favorite Mobile Office Location #1
In my search for the most perfect mobile office location, this has to be one of them. Dawes Arboretum. It’s quiet, except for birds singing and some distant traffic behind me. I have power where I can plug in and not have to worry about my battery draining, beautiful scenery, and a nice gentle breeze blowing in the spring air.
Notice the water fountain too?
The only downsides are these.
- Screen glare. It’s hard to find a place anywhere outside where this isn’t a problem.
- No Internet (yet… see last image)
- Weather. I’m in a shelter house but, the wind and rain can still get in, and I don’t imagine I’d be here in the middle of winter working.
- Shelter house could also be reserved for some occasion. I don’t imagine I would hang around for some little girls 5th birthday party if I actually wanted to get any work done.
- Lawnmowers. They do mow the grass here. I can hear them in the distance. Thankfully not anywhere close right now.
But who can argue with the view of budding trees (particularly the dogwoods) and flowers, the serenity of being in nature and the cool fragrance of spring?
Oh yeah… there’s a wireless signal…
I will have to maybe see if I can bribe someone in the office to get a key for this!

yeah, that would make sense. Still, it would be nice eh? Maybe even set up some live webcams out there?
By the way Mark, I got your link in the blogroll. I forgot about it there for a bit, but you are there now. Hope all is well.
Thanks for the link to my site.
They used to have the webcams on their website, but they’re no longer there. It looks like their working on their site.

I think Dawes gets wireless from a point to point wireless, so you may be picking up their business Internet. I remember someone using them a a reference for that once. It would be a long distance for them to have wifi from the main building to the shelter.
