A Local Artist - Tessa Warner

campfire jpgRecently, I have began a journey to learn more about local artists right here in my hometown. It’s amazing to me how many there are when you look for them. Today I visited Tessa Warner who teaches Art Classes locally as well as sells her paintings. Before today, I didn’t know Tessa… I only knew that there was some kind of Art place in the old mall. She was gracious enough to invite me into her studio and share a little about her artwork and herself.

Tessa describes herself as a local Art hermit. She paints almost entirely with oils, though recently has began working with Acrylics more. Her studio is located in the old Arcade mall in downtown Newark here and when you walk in, you can’t help but feel a cozy feeling being surrounded by canvases and art filling every nook and cranny of her studio. It’s not big, and she utilizes almost every square inch of space for artwork of her students and herself.

You definitely get the idea that Tessa doesn’t just paint because it brings in money, she paints because she loves to. Landscapes are her specialty and there is a definite Bob Ross influence though Tessa only views that as a stepping stone to her own unique style that she brings to a painting. Tessa is often commissioned for portraits and paintings locally as well as entering local fairs which she often wins.

Tessa isn’t a Rembrandt, but her passion for painting shows and subsequently rubs off on most of her students. You can view Tessa’s website here and if you are interested in any of her pieces, many of the originals are for sale as well.
